Key Insights
- NCOA and the BOOST Nutritional Drink brand are developing a suite of materials to educate older adults about balanced nutrition.
- Older adults have unique nutritional needs that many overlook.
- The educational materials will include dietary guides and animated videos.
A new collaboration between the National Council on Aging (NCOA) and the BOOST, a nutritional beverage brand, will try to reshape how older Americans approach their dietary habits.
The partnership seeks to promote healthy aging by equipping older adults and caregivers with accessible, science-backed information on balanced nutrition.
At its core, the initiative will try to convey knowledge about the essential role that nutrients, such as protein, calories, vitamin D, and vitamin B12, play in maintaining strength, energy, and long-term wellness.
“Eating well is essential to aging well,” said Gretchen Tanbonliong, associate director of Health and Wellness at NCOA. “Older adults need the right amount of nutrients to support their health and independence.”
As the U.S. population over age 65 continues to grow, many seniors face dietary challenges stemming from limited mobility, chronic health conditions, or economic barriers. By producing educational resources tailored to the unique needs of older adults, the organization and the company hope to close that nutritional knowledge gap.
What the partnership will deliver
The initiative will roll out a variety of resources, available in both English and Spanish, to ensure broad accessibility. These include:
- Dietary guides designed specifically for the nutritional needs of older adults
- Animated videos that explain key concepts in a simple, engaging format
- Infographics and educational tools highlighting the importance of a well-balanced diet
- Articles for caregivers offering practical tips on supporting the nutritional well-being of loved ones
“NCOA plays a crucial role in advocating for the health and well-being of older adults,” said Aimee Henrikson, senior manager of Medical Affairs at BOOST. “By combining our strengths, we’re creating tools that empower older adults to take charge of their nutrition and live healthier, more vibrant lives.”
Both organizations emphasize that healthy aging starts with informed choices. Through their joint outreach, they hope to change how older adults think about food, not just as fuel, but as a foundation for longevity and well-being.
