Actor, comedian, and producer Adam Sandler will be honored with AARP’s Movies for Grownups Career Achievement Award at the organization’s annual ceremony on January 10, 2026, in Beverly Hills, California.

The award celebrates Sandler’s enduring influence and versatility as one of Hollywood’s most recognizable figures.

“We couldn’t be prouder to present this year’s Movies for Grownups Career Achievement Award to Adam Sandler, a Hollywood legend whose remarkable career has set a new standard for comedic storytelling,” said Dr. Myechia Minter-Jordan, CEO of AARP. “Adam’s enduring success, his ability to reinvent himself, inspire laughter, and move us through dramatic performances is a testament to the power of creativity at every age.”

A career defined by range and reinvention

From his early days on Saturday Night Live to a long list of box office hits and acclaimed dramatic turns, Sandler has built a career that transcends genre and generation. His comic classics, such as Billy Madison (1995), Happy Gilmore (1996), and The Wedding Singer (1998), established him as a comedic icon, while films like Punch-Drunk Love (2002), Uncut Gems (2019), and Hustle (2022) revealed his remarkable emotional depth.

This year continues that evolution. Following the record-breaking success of Happy Gilmore 2, which became Netflix’s biggest opening weekend ever, Sandler will next appear opposite George Clooney in Noah Baumbach’s upcoming drama Jay Kelly, premiering this month.

Honors across a storied career

Sandler’s accolades include the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead for Uncut Gems, the 2023 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, and multiple nominations across the Emmys, Golden Globes, and Grammys. In 2024, he earned two Emmy nods for his Love You variety special and his musical contributions to SNL50, along with a Golden Globe nomination.

Through his production company, Happy Madison Productions, Sandler has written, produced, and starred in a string of global hits for over 30 years. His projects have collectively grossed billions and continue to resonate with audiences of all ages.

A celebration of creative longevity

Now in its third decade, AARP’s Movies for Grownups Awards spotlight films that speak to mature audiences and combat ageism in Hollywood. The 2026 ceremony, hosted again by Alan Cumming of The Traitors, will honor standout films and performances from 2025 across categories like Best Movie for Grownups, Best Director, and Best Actor.

The event will air nationally as part of Great Performances on PBS, February 22, 2026, at 7/6c, and will stream on pbs.org/moviesforgrownups and the PBS app. Proceeds from the event support the AARP Foundation, which helps older adults strengthen financial resilience and economic security nationwide.

Sandler joins a prestigious list of past honorees, including Jamie Lee Curtis, George Clooney, Helen Mirren, Michael Douglas, and Robert De Niro — solidifying his place among Hollywood’s most accomplished and enduring talents.
